I think I spent both days the same, woke up around 10am, check the internets, watched a couple movies, ate lunch at WEB, met up with Kraig when he got back from work.
On thursday, we had planned to go on the night city tour bus, but as usual it was very hazy and not the best for picture taking. We spent the evening walking around the downtown area and ate dinner at McDonalds.
Friday was the fiasco of finding the theater. I was in a much better mood after the movie, maybe from having time to sit and relax. Before the movie, we stopped at KFC for Kraig's dinner. After the movie and getting back to the campus area, we stopped in 7-11 for my dinner, microwavable curry that was surprisingly tasty. There was an older couple sitting at the 7-11 tables watching some nat geo show about Amazonian natives. They loved watching our reactions to the show, as they showed some frightful scenes. It was a nice end to the night.
On saturday, we went to the Korean War Memorial & Museum. Much better directions this time. When we arrived, we spent some time in the outdoor area where they keep all the tanks, planes, and other big war things. Well, Kraig liked it. I felt like his nanny running to keep up with him and take his picture by every tank. Occasionally Kraig and I have superior timing; as we entered the indoor section they were about to start a tour in english, with native english speakers! The museum/memorial is pretty cool, I'll put some pictures on facebook. After the memorial, we headed back to Itaewon to look at another book store and find dinner. Saturday was the opposite of what all the other days have been. It was fun, we found things easily, and we had delicious food!!! The entrance for the book store (What The Book) had a sign for a Thai restaurant on the floor above. Hello Thai food!!
Kraig got red curry with chicken and I got vegetable curry. We forgot to ask for it to be extra spicy, so we called over the manager-looking man. He was so excited that we wanted it spicy and a little shocked. After the meal, he was even more shocked that it didn't burn our mouths off, so he gave us each a free dessert! MM, warm coconut milk with banana. It's nothing I would have ordered on my own, but it was so delicious; I had almost wished I hadn't ate everything off my plate. Almost. We'll definitely go back for more!

Mine, sooooo good:
If I had the chance, I would have licked the plate clean:
After dinner, we walked around the neighborhood in Itaewon. We wanted to find the Mosque and ended up surprised to find a large Muslim neighborhood. Lots of Middle Eastern shops, restaurants, and other little goodies. Close by, there was an African neighborhood. Sometime I'll return to try out the Turkish restaurants and bakery (baklava!) By the time we were ready to go home, Itaewon was hoppin'! I guess it's party central on the weekends, with all the wild and crazy army folk.
But isn't 8pm a little early to line up at the club?
Saturday was very enjoyable, hopefully our time here only gets better!
So glad you had fun. I was wondering if the movie was in English or was it captions? Please be careful-they don't have high standards for fire codes. Just be careful travelling to places without knowing some of the neighborhood history.
ReplyDeleteYes, be careful of exploring on your own. I'm also glad you had a great time!
