I suppose I should catch up on last weekend before I start this weekend.

Last saturday was very rainy and our favorite lounge on campus was locked, so we ended up having lunch at my favorite toast spot and then resting on our own. I think Kraig spends most of his free time looking up hotels in Boracay. We haven't picked one out yet, but we've narrowed it down to 3 choices. I'm trying not to think about it, but it'll be rainy season in the Philippines when we visit. At least we won't be in Korea.

On sunday, we met up with Yeram and her friend to go to church. I can't remember the name of it, but it was about an hour away somewhere in Gangnam. I liked this church a lot better than the first and actually got something out of the message. After church, Yeram had to leave us, but pointed out the cool things to do in Gangam. We did our usual headless search for food before retracing our footsteps back to Quiznos. We checked out the largest bookstore in Korea, but it was so overwhelming! Finally, after wasting enough time, Kraig's friend Adam arrived. He's more of a friend of a friend, but we still had much to talk about. He's been in Korea for almost a year, teaching English at a middle school in the middle of nowhere. Well, sorta the middle of nowhere. He said his town is 3 blocks long and he lives about 20 minutes from the northern border. Sometimes he can hear alarms going off, but no one seems to care. Crazy!

We decided to check out Coex mall (the largest mall in Seoul?) since Yeram kept talking about it. I think it'll be a one time deal. From the minute we walked in til the minute we left, we were elbow to elbow (or elbow to shoulder). I guess it's a very popular place. The only store that stuck out to me, since most were the same stores found anywhere and everywhere else, was a Hello Kitty store! The boys laughed at me when I used the lame excuse that I wanted to look for a souvenir for my sister. (Yes, Karen, I'm talking about you.) We tried out the movie theater inside the mall, but no such luck! Here, when you buy tickets you pick out your seats too. For all 2 movies that we were interested in, only 2 or 3 scattered seats were available. So, we did the next best thing and found an uncrowded coffee shop to relax and chat in.

We had a great time with Adam. It's always comforting to talk to someone else who has felt out of place here; nice to know we aren't oddballs.

After our time with Adam, we got some good ol' Popeyes and then visited the Namsan Folk Village. I'm pretty sure the buildings are newer, but they were built in a traditional style to represent old life in Korea. I think we arrived just minutes after some show they put on, maybe dancing or music. Kraig had been there with work and thought it'd be cute at night, and he was right! They had paper lanterns lighting the walkways and the Namsan Tower was in the background.

We ended sunday night with a little bit of shopping! Of course! Myeong-dong, the young, hip place to shop, where we went with Tim, was only a 10 minute walk away. I'm glad we went. We got some pineapple on a stick and I got a cute electric blue purse that I just love.

So, aside from all the rain, last weekend was great!

  1. All the wondering around sounds fun to me (minus rain, heat, humidity, etc lol). I would love going to a hello kitty store anywhere in Asia!!! Yay.
